• " What an awesome week!! After a bit of a break (10 years or so 🤣), we returned to sample more of Bubions unique trails with our always welcoming hosts at Switchbacks. As usual Michael made us instantly feel at home, as we settled in to our perfect little house in the haven that is Bubion, ready for a week of shredding. And the trails didn't disapoint!! Going from perfect 'Spanish flow' to rock gardens and centuries old roman roads whilst testing your skills and being surrounded by breathtaking scenery. We then had a unique opportunity to sample what Malaga had to offer and stay in the polar opposite accommodation that is the fantastic 4 star hotel that Switchbacks use in the winter months. The trails are also quite different with some challenging rocky trails, a very unique trail that follows a huge Dam and some sweet forest single track which was a dream to ride!!! Anyway just wanted to say a huge thanks again to Michael, Ruben and the crew for making our stay one to remember. See u again real soon, the isle if wight crew!!! "

• " What an amazing experience we have all had in Bubion, with Michael at Switchbacks!! Seventeen of us were a lot to keep happy and Michael ensured that everything ran smoothly for us, from collecting at the airport, supplying fabulous accommodation in the most charming villas,with plenty of space to spread out, to organising our final evening in the most exquisite little restaurant in Bubion. The trails are pretty technical and rocky with slippery slate to contend with, but certainly a challenge and with the help of Michael and Reuben you feel like you could tackle anything! A typical day started for us at 9.30 (well, we tried for 9.30).. splitting the groups into abilities and suitable trails.. we arranged packed lunches from the little cafe beside the car park, but nearly always managed to return for a cold drink and some tapas around 2pm. Those who wanted, headed off again for some more adrenalin boosting trails, finishing up by 5pm.. just time for quick shower and change ready for a night out in Bubion. Michael goes over and above the duties of the perfect host and I highly recommend the mountain biking experience with him. We are now planning a return visit.🚴‍♀️🚴‍♀️🚴‍♀️ "

• " Me and Mike go a long way back. I first visited Switchbacks in 2007, in Bubion with my cross-country bike. I was there for a long weekend. I cried on the flight home, did not want to leave. The moment I got home, I dropped my luggage in the entrance hall and booked a new trip back, this time for a week. Those two times changed the way I biked. Friends would see me try to always find the rockiest, most technical bit of riding, even if only a meter long, in the middle of vastly flat terrain. From there, life took me on some twists and turns of its own. I kept biking, but locally. Fast forward some seven years and I found myself having started travelling to more and more technical trails, and having taken more and more risks, thinking naively that if you just trust your bike, you are ok, right? Right? After the second bad crash that left me taking painkillers and off the bike for 3 months, I booked myself a technical clinic with Switchbacks in Malaga in both January 2016 and December 2016, to learn more. I turned into a downhiller! My whole life changed, AGAIN. I cannot thank enough Mike and the last couple of times also Westley. I can't wait to visit again, and see which biking dimension you SEND me to this time! "

• " Just returned from an amazing week with these guys. From start to finish, the experience was top drawer. The digs are excellent in a lovely ancient little town. There are a few places to eat and you can be out all night for about €20 so it's very cheap. The routes are varying in terms of how much effort you need to put in - you'll actually be "loving" the climbs but mostly because they get you to amazing downhills that simply cannot often be reached by road. Very happy to recommend and expect I will return again in the not too distant future. "

• " Great variety of trails, great guides, great atmosphere and great weather. We spent a week with Switchbacks this March/April (20 degrees in Spain). They have a villa where you can stay for the duration of your trip; it has a large bike workshop where all the bikes are stored and there’s a lovely atmosphere (you are around other riders). There are other facilities - I believe there was a pool at the back of the property - and table tennis tables etc. The villa is in a great location, just a minute’s pedal from a local bike shop (which is super cheap and really fast) and close to restaurants etc. We actually stayed at a hotel nearby and left the bikes at the Villa, because we had family with us who weren’t riding. Each morning we would meet at about 9:15 at the villa and then load up the vans. The vans don’t use those bike trailers, instead putting the bikes inside. This was actually great, because the bikes didn’t get rubbed as much and at the end of the day when you’re really tired you don’t have to lift your bike; the guide will put the bike in the van for you. I use the term ‘guide’ loosely, because all the guys who acted as our guides were more of a fellow rider than the stand-alone guide. Of course, they knew the tracks and were there to give tuition if needed, but they acted as a friend and were all great riding companions. There’s no pressure to be super fast and they can help recommend which trails are best based on how your ride - you’ll be a much better rider by the end of your holiday because the tracks get gradually more challenging as you adapt to the terrain (if you wanted to stay on the easier trails, that would be fine too). I really can’t fault any of the guys who guided us. The tracks were mostly super rocky, but there were also some really smooth and flowy trails. Just tell Michael what you like and you’ll get to ride it! They took two vans each day, often to different locations, so you could pick which tracks to ride (to a certain extent). Because you are with a group, the guides have to cater for everyone’s preferences. This means you won’t ride your favourite trail every day, but that didn’t matter at all: all the tracks were amazing. Lunch is either at a restaurant (we went to a wonderful and very reasonably priced Pizzeria loads of times) or some stuff from the supermarket (some cheese etc). Either way it’s lovely. Each day you get back to the villa at about 5 and may then have to spend a little while checking over or fixing your bike because the terrain is so brutal. To avoid this, bring a load of spares along in your airport bike bag (assuming you’re taking your own bike): loads of tubes, chain, gear cable, brake pads, hanger etc. When you’re riding, put a ton of pressure in your tires (within reason) and maybe bring some spare thicker grips for if your fingers get painful (because of the rough tracks). We found the website a little confusing, but if you keep digging around there's loads of advice on what to bring and how to prepare. A friend of mine had a nasty crash whilst we were there and it was dealt with very professionally. Within seconds all the guides were made aware of the situation and transport to the hospital was organised. The van had a first aid kit in it and the guide was really competent and organised when helping after the crash. I rode on a DH bike, but everyone else was on enduro rigs. Whatever you ride, there’s something there for you to enjoy, including climbing if you would like to. There are a few tracks with some large jumps if that’s what you like, but most are of a more technical style. Regardless, there’s never any traffic on the tracks: it’s just you and the rest of the switchbacks guys. It’s worth noting that the length of the tracks is phenomenal; in just one run I would get more descent than I would in a weekend back in the UK. Long tracks are split into sections so if you wish you can regroup and take a well earned break. A huge thanks to Michael and West for making our week so enjoyable: we’ll be back! "

• " If you have never been to switchbacks put it on your bucket list , runs are awesome especially the ridiculator , soooooo good , and mike who runs it , makes it special , been twice to benalmadena . Top runs (911 rock gardens , then the gardens are farms fu**ing long ) pizza in the town and beer is €1.50 a pint it all adds up to a trip and a half . And unlike the Alps it's well let's say discreet, like your on a invite only. So go go go . "
